Unions and Societies Officer

Unions and Societies Officer: Lucas McCollum

The USO is primarily responsible for the day to day running of the clubs and societies within Castle, including financing and promoting teams and events that they put on, and running student-led events such as Castle-Hatfield Day, Give it a Go week and the College Festival of Sport. The USO is also the link between Castle and university-wide institutions, such as Team Durham, Experience Durham and the Durham Students’ Union (DSU).

(More information can be found in the Standing Orders, VI.13, p.14-15)

I’m Lucas, the new Unions and Societies Officer for the coming year, and I’m a 4th year Physics and Astronomy student. In Castle, I play Mixed Lacrosse, Hockey, Football, Pool and the occasional bit of Cricket (no bowling, bat at number 11). I play the drums for Castle’s “in house” band, Bangers and Matt, and I’ve also been lucky enough to get a job on the Undercroft committee after the 4th time of applying! (There are some perks to doing a 4 year course.) Outside of college, I play lacrosse for the Durham Men’s 1st Team. The Clubs and Societies within Castle absolutely make the college what it is, and being part of some of these has made university so much fun, so please get involved in as much as you can.

If you have any questions about any of the above, or anything at all, feel free to get in touch via Facebook, email me at castle.uso@durham.ac.uk, or knock on my door (N24)!
