The College is proud of its bar in the atmospheric 11th Century Undercroft, with arches and stone work. It is affectionately known at ‘The Undie’, is the main social space in college and undoubtedly the best bar in Durham. The combination of the focal point of the College – a place to meet, chat and relax (and even revise during the day in exam period) – with a wide selection of drinks at prices that will bring you back night after night, and the characterful setting makes the Undie a very special place indeed.
The Undercroft also plays hosts to several Events (‘Ents’), usually live music (Mundie), discos and karaoke, but also bar quizzes on occasion, the projection screen and TV in the bar are often used to show major sports events, and it is regularly transformed at every Ball.
The Undercroft is the responsibility of the Food & Beverages Service Manager, Jamie Short, but during term-time much of the running of the bar is undertaken by the JCR though the JCR Undercroft Chairman and Undercroft Vice-Chairmen. Members of the JCR serve behind the bar and on security as part of the Undercroft Committee (and are paid by the College for that).
