Senior Student: Matthis Mühlenbrock
The Senior Student is the head of the JCR (Junior Common Room) and has three main duties – first, they lead and support the Executive Committee, the student group that is responsible for the day-to-day running of all parts of the JCR. Secondly, the Senior Student represents the undergraduate body of Castle within University College to groups such as the MCR (Middle Common Room – Masters and PhD students), the SCR (fellows of the college), College Office, College Council or Durham Castle Society.
Thirdly and finally, the Senior Student ensures that the views of the JCR are heard by the Durham Students’ Union and the University, as well as being the face of the JCR to those outside the Durham University community.

Hello there!
I‘m Matthis, this year‘s Senior Student. I‘m a Sociology finalist with a particular focus on conflict studies and a keen interest in history, particularly anything medieval (good thing we happen to live in a Castle). I’m always up for a chat, so if you’ve got any questions, want to discuss history, or if you’re interested in learning more about my work and our College, please feel free to send me an email on castle.seniorstudent@durham.ac.uk or come see me on Norman Gallery. Otherwise you can probably find me in the Undie, in the Fencing Salle at Maiden Castle or grabbing a coffee at Coviello. Castle is a place of infinite opportunities to learn news skills and to get to know amazing people, so I‘d definitely recommend you get involved in as many things as possible!
