Primary Education

Division Head: Isabel Locke cca.primaryed@durham.ac.uk

The Primary Education division is all about providing opportunities to local children that they would otherwise not have access to while creating and maintaining a strong relationship between University College and the local community.

At present, the division works with two schools: Laurel Avenue and Sherburn Village. At both schools, we run a Bright Sparks club for gifted and talented students of various ages: these clubs cover all kinds of subjects from history to science. At Laurel Avenue we also run a Latin club and at the end of the year, the children from both clubs at Laurel Avenue come into Castle for a day of art, sport and history.

The division plans to continue all of the after school classes while also hoping to increase the involvement of sports and societies, by asking them to come into the schools on a one-off basis to run workshops with the pupils. New to this year, there are also plans to accompany a school on an educational visit which will hopefully provide more wonderful opportunities for the pupils and volunteers on top of what we have achieved over the past few years.
