Ball Committee

Every college at Durham hosts numerous events throughout the academic year. What many people say is so special about these at Castle is the location; attending balls in a UNESCO World Heritage Castle is somewhat magical.

The Ball Committee, which is made up of Junior and Senior Coordinators and headed by the Ball Chair, works to both plan and execute both Ladies Night and Halfway Hall, the first two balls within the college calender, falling in first and second term respectively. Traditionally, Ladies Night is attended by both first and third (finalists) years, and Halfway Hall is attended by Second years, although anyone is welcome! Many members of the committee then apply to gain a place on The June Ball Committee, responsible for our third and final ball, happening in final term: June Ball.

As one of the larger societies within college, The Ball Committee has a lot to offer – positions on the team include sourcing aesthetics, logistics, budgeting and administration, seeking sponsorship, selecting food and drink, and recruiting bands for entertainment. Being a part of such a large committee enables students to develop key skills for graduate jobs whilst simultaneously meeting lots of other students within college- that’s goes without even mentioning the socials…

Applications to join the Ball committee will be out very soon after Freshers’ week.
